High up in the Guge Mountains lies the village of Dorze. Here the people belong to the Omotic people of the southwest and are known for their intricate and ingenious construction of towering enset (false banana leaf) huts, which are made to resemble the shape of an elephant. If you look closely you might be able to find the protruding eyes and the formation of a trunk. Dorze homes are also unique in that the inside is partitioned to include housing for the livestock, which helps to keep these mountain homes warm in the winter. In addition, Dorze village houses a successful cooperative which provides income for local artisans.
